Techanization
The concept of “Techanization” is to integrate technology into an “ecosystem” to make it grow better and prosper. The more important thing about Techanization is that the application of technology can bring benefits and make human being better, not just invent a technology and then apply it in one area. The application of technology should be people-oriented and needs to take into account all stakeholders, systematically consider from the perspective of the whole ecology to realize Techanization, so that the ecology can grow prosperously and endlessly, benefiting all human being. Prof. Poon's advice: "Integrate technology into an ecology and enable it to be more productive, efficient and sustainable for better human being as a prosperous cycle." Download PDF
Modified Expectation Theory
Motivation = Expectancy x (Instrumentality) x Valence. According to the traditional expectation theory, individuals can be motivated towards goals if they believe that there is a positive correlation between efforts and performance, the outcome of a favorable performance will result in a desirable reward, a reward from a performance will satisfy an important need, and/or the outcome satisfies their need enough to make the effort worthwhile. However, employees sometimes do not know how to place efforts in the right way to achieve better performance. The Modified Expectation Theory embeds LEARNING to the traditional one (as shown). Learning is an accelerator in the motivation process and can improve the ability and capability which results in higher efficiency and better performance when employees placing effort. With such improved performance, employees can get more rewards and reach higher satisfaction, followed by more confidence and motivation. Prof. Larry's advice: Superiors should not only just ask subordinates to continue their efforts but should provide training and guidance to employees so that they can be clearer about the goals and feel more confident in reaching better performance with their improved ability. Position Power and Personal Power
Power can drive behaviors and can be simply classified into Personal Power and Position Power. When influencing others, position power is necessary but should not be used up. Unless the position power is very clearly defined, it is recommended to use only 90% of it and leaving 10% as buffer. If you use it up every time, it is easy to reach the critical point where it may cause misunderstandings easily, and even results in criticism for abuse of power, so it is always necessary to maintain high sensitivity to your position power. Personal power includes charisma (ie, personal characters and physical characters) and reference power (i.e., experience and professionalism). Some people, despite their lack of position powers, can call on others with their personal powers, especially in times of crisis and desperation. Prof. Larry's advice:There is limit for position power, but personal power can be infinite. Therefore, we can continue to cultivate personal power to increase our influence. Download PDF
